Persons who served prison terms for protesting against the declaration of Emergency, facilitated

In 1975, by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared Emergency, to which many persons were sent to prison those who were protesting against the declaration. On Sunday, Assam Government facilitated those people who served prison terms and announced monthly pension for those protesters. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated 301 ‘Lok Tantra Senani’ and their relatives, and handed over 91 pension papers. Again drugs smuggling seized in Assam

On Friday, Assam Police seized narcotics worth at least Rs 25 crore in the international market. Police also arrested five persons on charges of drugs peddling. The five arrested persons were identified as Talab Hussain, Tahir Ahmed and Khalid Hussain, residents of Patharkandi in Assam and Nitai Sarkar and Nitu Sarka from Tripura. On Tuesday, Election Commission has released its draft proposal for delimitation in Assam resulting in increased of seats. As per reports, seats increased and reserved for Scheduled Castes from eight to nine and for Scheduled Tribes from 16 to 19. 142 villages under water, nearly 33,500 affected, Assam

On Monday, flood condition in Assam increases affecting more villages in number than before including villages, towns and farmlands. According to the sources, the India Meteorological Department has issued a 'Red Alert' and predicted 'very heavy' to 'extremely heavy' rainfall across several districts of Assam till Thursday. Due to continuous rain more than 33,500 people are affected in Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts. Also, 142 villages are under water and 1,510.98 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam so far.
