A day after receiving a criminal defamation verdict from a Surat court, Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha. According to the provisions of Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Article 102 (1)(e) of the Constitution, Mr. Gandhi is ineligible to serve as a member of the Lok Sabha as of the date of his conviction, according to a notification from the lower house signed by Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh.
