Infrastructural development for Assam schools

On Sunday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that around 4,000 government institutes in the state would witness infrastructural improvements in the next five years. Sarma said the state government has taken a massive step to improve the infrastructure of 1,000 high and higher secondary schools across the state. Under the plan, infrastructural development will be done through appropriate interventions in educational institutions. Swedish National arrested in Assam

Three Swedish preachers have been arrested for violating visa norms and proselytizing Christians in Naharkatiya in Assam's Dibrugarh district. According to sources, it is learned that the Swedish nationals are being deported to Stockholm by Qatar Airways, after being fined USD 500 each for violating visa rules. Three Swedish preachers viz. Hanna Mikaela, Markus Arne Henrik Blum, and Suzanna Elizabeth Hakanasson were arrested by Dibrugarh Police from Naharkatiya.

Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute to support armed forces in Northeast

A Memorandum of Association (MoA) was signed with Dr B Boroh Cancer Institute, Guwahati on 26 October to provide medical facilities to the beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). This effort could benefit around 115,000 armed forces across the Northeast region. ECHS Scheme aims to provide allopathic and AYUSH treatment across the country to Ex-Servicemen pensioners and their dependents through a network of ECHS polyclinics, service medical facilities, government hospitals, private hospitals/designated government and AYUSH hospitals.

Cyclone Sitrang affected 83 villages in Assam

Cyclone Sitrang has damaged several houses in Assam due to heavy rains and storm surge. About 1100 people in 83 villages of Assam have been affected by the flood. According to reports, 325.501 hectares of crops were damaged by uprooting of numerous trees and electric poles in some parts of Assam. Several houses were damaged in Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia Tea Garden and Boraligaon areas of Central Assam district due to the storm.

Museum “Miya” of Assam got sealed

The 'Mia Museum', set up in a house allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Assam's Goalpara district, was sealed just two days after its opening. It was inaugurated on Sunday and notified to close on Tuesday. According to sources, the museum was set up in a PMAY house and closed after protests by BJP leaders over inauthentic display of objects belonging to the 'Miya' community.
