Delhi files new Covid-19 cases

MBBS seats increased for different communities in Assam

The Assam Cabinet has decided to increase the number of seats reserved for each of the six communities claiming Scheduled Tribe status in medical education by two. The Tea Garden Tribes, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Matak, Moran, and Chutia—which are currently defined as Other Backward Communities (OBC) have seats reserved for students from those communities in the MBBS program, according to Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said at a cabinet meeting late on Friday night. The two activists filed a police complaint against Sarma, Vasudev and state tourism minister Jayant Malla Barua, claiming they violated the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 when they entered the national park beyond scheduled tour hours on Saturday. Private Madrassas to regulate soon

Several madrassa teachers have been arrested for their links with terrorist organizations. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said the Assam government can control all private madrasas in the state. When asked whether private madrassas will be regulated, the minister said, "Till now we were not looking at the issue. We already have a law to monitor private educational institutions. But, not all private schools are covered under this Act now.”The minister said that the government is gradually taking measures to bring all private educational institutions under their control and monitoring under the existing law.

West Bengal man arrested by NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a 37 year old man from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district for his alleged involvement in the CPI (Maoist) case in Assam’s Cachar district. He was arrested near Narayana School from Mahishpata on Kalyani Expressway. An investigation of the case revealed that the accused Chakraborty was an active member of the West Bengal-based CPI (Maoist).

NRL to start new project

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) plans to invest Rs 35,000 crore over the next five years to complete its five major ongoing projects, including the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline (IBFPL), a top company official said. The sanctioned expenditure of the expansion project is Rs 18,968 crore and as on June 30, 2022, the physical progress was 14.1 percent and the cumulative financial commitment was Rs 11,996 crore.

Longest river cruise service will begin early next year in Assam

The service for the people of Assam, to use the inland waterways for their trade, tourism and cargo transport etc. will start in Assam soon, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Monday. 4,000 km. Through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBRP), the route will connect the Ganga and Brahmaputra rivers with the longest river cruise service between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Bagibil in Assam starting early next year. He laid the foundation stone for the construction of floating jetties at Bagibil and Guijan. Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Bogibeel Riverfront Passenger Jetty.
