Lalsangliana, IAS, on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the electoral roll revision exercise in Aizawl district and urged political parties, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and election officials to work together to ensure the preparation of an accurate and error-free electoral roll.

The review meeting was held at the Aizawl DC Pisapui Hall under the chairmanship of Lalsangliana, who is also Commissioner and Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD) and Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA). He has been appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as the Electoral Roll Observer for SIR 2026 in Aizawl district.

The meeting was attended by officials associated with the revision exercise, representatives of political parties, NGOs and district election authorities.

During the meeting, District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl, Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, presented a report on the progress made so far and outlined the activities being carried out under the Special Intensive Revision programme in the district.

Addressing the participants, Lalsangliana said the purpose of the review was to assess whether the various phases of the electoral roll revision prescribed by the Election Commission were being implemented effectively and completed within the stipulated timeline. He also reviewed the public awareness campaigns conducted under the programme and sought feedback on the challenges faced by Election Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Election Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs).

He said the present period is crucial for fresh enrolment, correction of entries and deletion of invalid names.

Describing the Special Intensive Revision as an opportunity to prepare a clean, accurate and error-free electoral roll, Lalsangliana appealed to political parties and civil society organisations to extend full cooperation to election officials for the successful completion of the exercise.
