Tata Motors has secured more than 3,400 orders for electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) across freight, logistics and passenger mobility segments, reinforcing its leadership position in India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility market. The orders include around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-ups, nearly 900 trucks and about 500 buses. The vehicles are set to be deployed across a wide range of sectors including e-commerce, logistics, FMCG, FMCD distribution, intra-city mobility, cement, steel, mining, tarmac operations, and inter- and intra-city passenger transportation.
The development reflects growing confidence among fleet operators and businesses in the operational viability of electric commercial vehicles and signals a shift from pilot projects to large-scale deployment. Tata Motors said the orders further strengthen its role in advancing India’s zero-emission commercial mobility ecosystem. Over the past year, the company has expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio with models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV, Intra EV, Ultra EV range, Prima EV 55T tractor, Prima EV 28T tipper, and Starbus EV. Tata Motors currently operates over 3,800 electric buses across multiple cities, which have collectively covered more than 55 crorekilometres. In addition, over 17,000 Tata electric small commercial vehicles are in operation across the country.
The latest order win is expected to boost interest in electric commercial mobility in Kolkata and eastern India, where e-commerce, urban logistics and public transport operators are increasingly exploring sustainable transportation solutions. With rising demand for efficient last-mile delivery and cleaner urban mobility, Tata Motors’ expanding eCV portfolio could play a key role in accelerating EV adoption among fleet operators in the region.
