Tinder bets on astrology-led matchmaking as intentional dating trend grows in India

Tinder has rolled out its new “Astrology Mode” in India as the dating platform seeks to tap into the growing preference among young singles for more intentional and personality-driven connections. The launch comes amid changing dating behaviour highlighted in Tinder’s Year in Swipe 2025 report, which found that 64 per cent of young users believe emotional honesty is the most important aspect in modern dating, while 73 per cent said they recognise genuine interest when they can freely be themselves.

The feature allows users to unlock their astrological “Big 3” — Sun, Moon and Rising signs — by entering their birth details. Users can also access compatibility insights based on communication styles, emotions, attraction patterns and elemental dynamics such as Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Dr. Chandni Tugnait said increasing awareness around therapy, boundaries and self-awareness is influencing dating choices among young Indians. She noted that astrology is evolving from a traditional matchmaking tool into a conversational and self-expression-driven feature.

Tinder data showed Leo, Scorpio and Libra are among the most represented zodiac signs on Indian profiles. In Kolkata, believe astrology-based digital engagement is gaining traction among Gen Z and urban millennials in the city. With Kolkata witnessing rising adoption of dating and lifestyle apps, platforms integrating self-discovery and compatibility-focused features are expected to attract higher user engagement and longer in-app interaction among young consumers.
