Tripura Global Pineapple Festival gets underway in Delhi

The three-day Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 began at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, showcasing the state’s world-famous GI-tagged Queen Pineapple and highlighting Tripura’s growing agricultural potential before national and international stakeholders.
The inaugural event was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, senior government officials, farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, and representatives from the agriculture sector.
A major highlight of the festival was a special message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated the Government of Tripura, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and all stakeholders for organising the event. In his letter dated June 25, 2026, the Prime Minister described the festival as a significant initiative to showcase Tripura’s renowned “Queen Pineapple” to a wider global audience.
Prime Minister Modi noted that the Queen Pineapple, known for its distinctive aroma and sweetness, reflects Tripura’s rich agricultural heritage and natural advantages. He said the grant of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to the fruit was a landmark recognition of the state’s horticultural excellence.
The Prime Minister also observed that the festival would bring together farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, researchers, industry leaders and policymakers on a common platform, helping strengthen value chains, expand market access, encourage innovation and create greater opportunities for pineapple growers. He expressed confidence that these efforts would improve farmers’ livelihoods and establish Tripura as a leading global source of premium pineapples.
Referring to the Centre’s vision for the Northeast, Prime Minister Modi said that over the past twelve years the government has worked with the motto of “Act East, Act Fast and Act First” to unlock the immense potential of the region. He added that initiatives such as the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival reflect the commitment to making the Northeast an integral part of India’s growth story.
The Prime Minister further expressed confidence that the festival would enhance the international recognition of Tripura’s Queen Pineapple, open new avenues for trade and investment, and contribute significantly to the prosperity of the state’s farmers. He concluded by invoking the blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari and expressed hope that Viksit Tripura would play an important role in the journey towards Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Saha described the festival as “a moment of immense pride for the Pineapple Global Festival and for the farmers of Tripura.” He conveyed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his encouraging letter and warm wishes, stating that the Prime Minister’s inspiring words and unwavering support reaffirm the government’s commitment to empowering farmers, promoting agricultural excellence and expanding global market opportunities for Tripura’s world-renowned Queen Pineapple.
Dr. Saha said the state government remains committed to strengthening the farming community, boosting pineapple exports and showcasing Tripura’s agricultural potential on the global stage through sustained collaboration with the Central Government and industry stakeholders.
The Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 is expected to serve as a major platform for promoting investment, export opportunities, value addition and international branding of Tripura’s premium pineapple, while reinforcing the state’s position as one of India’s leading horticultural producers.
