Tripura University has appointed Prof. Shyamal Das, the senior-most professor of the institution, as its temporary vice-chancellor, an official notification issued on Thursday confirmed. The appointment comes following the retirement of former Vice-Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasin on August 16. Prof. Das, from the Department of English, will serve as the temporary vice-chancellor for a period of one year, or until a regular appointment is made, whichever occurs first, according to the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Police in Agartala apprehend a group that preys on elderly women and recover jewelry and stolen bikes

West Agartala police have busted a notorious gang involved in thefts and snatching incidents, primarily targeting elderly women in the city. The operation was carried out near the border area close to Bangladesh, under the jurisdiction of West Agartala police station.
