An official statement released on Saturday by UAE Attorney-General and Federal Prosecutor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, carried by the WAM News Agency, has confirmed that investigations into flydubai flight FZ1073 show the co-pilot attempted a “terrorist act” by starting to execute his plan mid-flight through an attack on the captain inside the flight deck. Initial probe details disclose that the Omani co-pilot employed a crash axe in a desperate bid to gain control of the aircraft’s flight systems, while law enforcement authorities continue their comprehensive investigations to determine all surrounding circumstances, underlying motives, and potential links, while simultaneously completing technical assessments and evaluating physical and digital evidence. Attorney-General Shamsi pointed out that the final conclusions will be formally publicized once all appropriate legal and investigative protocols reach their conclusion, and earlier that day, the Omani co-pilot who allegedly targeted Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar was publicly identified as 29-year-old Hamam Al-Hammami. Having been born in the UAE to an Omani father and a Syrian mother, Al-Hammami spent a significant portion of his life in the UAE and attended Buckinghamshire New University in England according to his LinkedIn profile. Furthermore, Al Arabiya English cited sources revealing that he was previously prohibited from flying within Oman due to suspicions regarding his alleged extremist ideology, and sources further alleged that he spent substantial time abroad in places like Syria, where he was supposedly drawn into extremist notions.
