A man, who witnessed the shooting that killed Tapan Kandu, a Congress councilor in Bengal’s Jhalda municipality, remained at his residence on Wednesday, a day after the CBI began investigating the case.
Eyewitness Niranjan Vaishnav’s dead body was found with a handwritten notice. According to the note, the shock of the shoot out forced him to take this step.
“Since the day the incident happened, I should not eat or sleep. I could not forget the incident even for a moment. Moreover, the police are constantly calling me to the police station. I never went to police station in my life. That is why I am taking this step. It’s nobody’s fault and I’m not forced by anybody,” be aware with Niranjan’s handwritten caption.
The body has been sent for post-mortem to find out the exact cause of his death.
Congress leader Nepal Mahato slammed the West Bengal Police over Niranjan Vaishnaw’s death. “The letter shows that he was pressured via the police. Last month, Tapan Kandu was allegedly shot by some bike-borne assailants when he crossed a long path for a walk near his home. He later died while undergoing treatment. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case.
Concerned about the CBI investigation, Tapan’s wife appealed to the Calcutta High Court.
Tapan Kandu’s brother, Naren Kandu, was once arrested for hiring professional killers for murder. According to the police, the murder took place due to a dispute over property.
