After ‘Distorted’ Claims, Marshall Baruah Vows to Repaint Zubeen Portrait on Ganeshguri Flyover

Marshall Baruah Responds to Allegations of Distorting Zubeen’s Portrait; Assures ‘Will Redraw It Properly’

Controversy continues on social media over the repainted portrait of beloved artist Zubeen Garg on the Ganeshguri flyover. After a section of people criticized the painting for being distorted, artist Marshall Baruah has now responded to the reactions.

It may be noted that widespread reactions were sparked across the state over the erasure of Zubeen Garg’s portrait and the words ‘Comrade Never Die’ painted on a pillar of the Ganeshguri flyover in the city. Following this, artist Marshall Baruah decided to repaint the portrait.

On the night of June 18, despite police obstruction, he repainted the image in the presence of a large number of Zubeen fans. But criticism began again on social media over that very painting. A section of people commented that the portrait did not resemble Zubeen Garg.

Responding to the criticism in a video, Marshall Baruah said that on the night of September 19, 2025, after receiving news of Zubeen Garg’s demise, he came from Jorhat and began painting the portrait at Ganeshguri. He mentioned that the painting was not his solo creation alone; the general public also participated and helped complete it.

The artist further said that at that time, there was a lack of necessary facilities such as ladders and adequate paint. Despite that, the painting was completed with the cooperation of the public.

On the criticism, the artist said that he would try to redraw Zubeen Garg’s portrait more accurately. He also mentioned that this is not the first portrait of Zubeen Garg he has painted. He claimed that he has painted Zubeen Garg’s image many times before.

It may be noted that various opinions and reactions continue on social media over this portrait at Ganeshguri and the words ‘Comrade Never Die’.
