Capacity Ramp-Up Boosts JSW Steel Production in June Quarter

JSW Steel reported a 3 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated crude steel production for the first quarter of the financial year, reaching 6.59 million tonnes (MT). The growth came despite a prolonged shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 at the company’s Vijayanagar plant, which underwent a capacity upgrade and resumed hot-metal production only on June 23.

The company said that excluding the impact of the shutdown, crude steel production recorded an impressive growth of nearly 15 per cent compared with the same period last year. The increase was driven by the full ramp-up of JVML operations and improved capacity utilisation at its Dolvi manufacturing facility.

JSW Steel’s Indian operations produced 6.35 million tonnes of crude steel during the quarter, up from 6.14 million tonnes a year earlier. Excluding the upgraded blast furnace, capacity utilisation across its Indian plants stood at approximately 94 per cent, reflecting strong operational efficiency.

Meanwhile, production at JSW Steel USA’s Ohio facility remained steady at 0.24 million tonnes compared with the corresponding quarter last year and improved from 0.15 million tonnes in the previous quarter. Consolidated production also rose 2 per cent sequentially from 6.48 million tonnes.

The company noted that year-on-year comparisons exclude production from Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd, following the transfer of its steel business to the JSW-JFE Steel joint venture in March 2026.
