Cognizant bets on AI talent with plan to build 15,000 Frontier-certified professionals

Cognizant has unveiled an ambitious workforce expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its artificial intelligence capabilities, announcing plans to scale its Frontier talent pool to 5,000 Frontier Certified Engineers and 10,000 Frontier Business Operators. The Nasdaq-listed technology services company said the first deployment-ready, Frontier-certified cohort will be available by the fourth quarter of 2026, backed by investments in training, certification and direct hiring of AI-native talent from universities worldwide.

The company said the initiative addresses what it estimates is a $4.5 trillion gap between AI’s technological potential and the business value enterprises are currently realising. Cognizant’s Frontier workforce model combines AI engineering with operational expertise, enabling professionals to design, deploy and manage AI systems while remaining accountable for business outcomes. The cloud-agnostic model supports enterprise environments across leading AI platforms, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, AWS, NVIDIA, Salesforce and ServiceNow.

Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar S. said enterprises need professionals who understand industry-specific challenges and can deliver measurable outcomes rather than merely implementing technology. Chief People Officer Kathy Diaz said AI has reshaped the nature of work, requiring a new workforce architecture, while Chief Learning Officer ThiruArohi said the company is investing in academies, certification pathways and responsible AI training to build a scalable talent pipeline.

In Kolkata, the announcement is expected to resonate with the city’s expanding IT and business services ecosystem, where demand for AI-skilled professionals continues to rise. As enterprises across eastern India accelerate digital transformation, Cognizant’s large-scale investment in AI talent development could create new employment opportunities, strengthen the regional technology talent pool and support businesses seeking to generate measurable returns from their AI investments.
