Cognizant marked 30 years of its operations in Kolkata, highlighting its growth journey driven by innovation and workforce strength in the city. The company began operations in 1996 from a 2,000-square-foot rented office—its second facility in India. Over three decades, it has expanded significantly, now spanning 1.23 million square feet across three facilities and employing nearly 18,000 associates in Kolkata.
Marking the milestone, Cognizant said the celebration reflects both its achievements and future ambitions. The company reiterated its focus on nurturing talent, advancing innovation, and strengthening Kolkata’s technology ecosystem. As part of the celebrations, it has launched an AI Tech Zone, reinforcing its position as an AI builder developing enterprise-scale solutions.
Through Cognizant Foundation India, the company has also contributed to social initiatives, including neurological and neonatal care, thalassemia treatment, prevention of avoidable blindness, and skill development programs for women and persons with disabilities. With a global workforce of 351,600, over 70% of Cognizant’s employees are based in India. The company operates across major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune.
Cognizant’s steady expansion highlights Kolkata’s growing position as a key IT and talent hub in eastern India. The city’s competitive costs, skilled workforce, and improving infrastructure continue to attract major IT investments, strengthening its role in the national technology landscape.
