The Southwest Monsoon started moving towards Kerala on Thursday, covering southern Sri Lanka on Thursday, the Met Office said.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday afternoon that conditions are favorable for the advancement of southwest monsoon over other parts of the South Arabian Sea, the entire Maldives and adjacent areas of Lakshadweep and some parts of the Comoros area.
According to reports, heavy rains are lashing parts of Kerala and the Met Office has predicted heavy rains in the southern state and Lakshadweep in the next two days.
The Met Office had earlier said that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to start in Kerala on May 27 with an error margin of four days.
The normal start date for Kerala is 1 June.
