A Rajya Sabha member from the Mizo National Front (MNF) said on Tuesday that more than 300 people who have entered Mizoram from Myanmar fearing the military crackdown in that country include pregnant women and children, report The Hindu. Manipur Democratic Alliance lauds Centre for deferring delimitation exercise

MDA on Wednesday lauded Centre’s decision of deferring delimitation in four north-east states including Manipur. Addressing a press conference here, MDA convener N Tombi Singh said the alliance welcomed the decision of the Central government, terming it a right step. He said delimitation was welcomed, but MDA had strongly opposed the exercise based on an erratic census report. On Saturday a 24-hour total shutdown to protest against delay in elections to the autonomous district councils (ADCs) affected life throughout the hill districts of Manipur.  All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) imposed the 24-hour shutd The strike that commenced from Friday midnight evoked good response with most of the market places, schools and colleges, business establishment and banks remaining shut.  Hundreds of Imphal-bound transport vehicles including inter-state buses and taxis were reportedly stranded at Nagaland-Manipur border along NH-2 and at Jiribam along NH-37 owing to the strike. Agitating tribal students in Manipur suspended its indefinite economic blockade on the national highways passing through hill districts of Manipur following an agreement with the state government on Sunday.
