Rs 40 lakh in cash seized by police in East Karbi Anglong

In a major development, the Barpathar Police seized cash amounting Rs 40 lakh for violation of the model code of conduct in East Karbi Anglong on Tuesday. As per reports, police seized the cash from a passenger bus during a naka check conducted over NH 36 in Khakrajan area under Barpathar Police Station in Karbi Anglong. The bus bearing registration number AS 09C 2272 was bound to Golaghat from Dimapur."The cash was seized from the possession of one Pawan Kumar Sharma who is a resident of Golaghat district. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday blamed the previous Congress government in 2007 for signing a “lopsided” agreement with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for the current power crisis in the State saying it’s like “hitting an axe on one’s feet.” He said the Congress government signed an agreement with NTPC in 2007 which bars the State to purchase power from other power companies. “Based on the agreement signed, the NTPC is arm-twisting the State government not to buy power from other power companies,” Sangma said in the course of his reply to the motion on law and order…
