Nineteen government teachers suspended in Manipur

As many as 19 teachers of different government schools in Manipur were placed under suspension from their services in two days after they were found absent during education minister’s surprise inspections. State education minister S Rajen was on surprise inspections of government schools from Tuesday. On the first day of his inspection on Tuesday, the minister found unauthorised absence of 17 teachers in two different schools in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. Assam govt extends ‘disturbed area’ tag for 6 months from Feb 27

Ahead of state assembly polls, the Governor of Assam has declared the entire State of Assam as “Disturbed Area” upto 6 months beyond February 27, unless withdrawn earlier, reports The Sentinel Assam.  In an official statement issued by the state government it said, “As per powers conferred under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, the Governor of Assam has declared the entire State of Assam as “Disturbed Area” upto 6 (six) months beyond 27/02/2021, unless withdrawn earlier”. Illegal limestone mining in Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills

There are reports that illegal limestone mining is rampant in Meghalaya’s Nongtalang and Amlari village under Amlarem Subdivision, West Jaintia Hills District, carried out by flouting all rules of MMMCR 2016 and MMDR Act 1957. The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Jaintia Hills Territorial Division, Jowai had issued notice to all the mining lease holders under Nongtalang and Satpator (Amlari) Elaka on illegal limestone mining. Meghalaya BJP president, Ernest Mawrie on Monday requested Governor Satya Pal Malik to order Chief Minister Conrad Sangma not to deny information sought under Right to Information (RTI).  Mawrie said that the BJP has filed number of RTI seeking information on implementation of Saubhagya scheme, Jal Jeevan Mission, COVID-19 expenditure besides others, but the government is yet to furnish the information.
