Assam soon to introduce human trafficking

The Assam government soon to introduce a law to check human trafficking, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the state assembly. According to the new law, those who employ themselves to check human trafficking will have to register details of their domestic help with the nearest police station and also be responsible to provide education and health facilities to them. Pipe bombs to target CRPF in Dantewada were found

On Tuesday, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personals recovered two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The explosive devices have been planted by Maoists, in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, according to the investigation. These explosives found are called pipe bombs. The IEDs were packed in iron pipes and weighed 10 kg each.  The suspecting was spotted on Monday while the team of the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 231st battalion was out on a road security operation. From the reports, the CRPF personnel stationed in Karaguda camp have recovered IEDs many times in this area.

Covid cases declined in the country

India logged 5,221 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,00,580, while the active cases dipped to 47,176.The death toll climbed to 5,28,165 with 15 fatalities which includes four deaths.From the earlier reports, India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

Assam govt to close around 300,000 petty crime cases

The Assam government has decided to withdraw around three lakh petty crime cases to reduce the load on the judiciary, a minister said. Addressing a press conference after a Cabinet meeting, Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said lakhs of petty cases are pending across the state. "We have decided to withdraw around three lakh of the 4.19 lakh petty crime cases, invoking Section 321 of the CrPC. This will reduce the backlog of cases and decongest jails," he said. India records 5,554 new Covid cases

India reported 5,554 new coronavirus infections taking the tally to 4,44,90,283 while active cases further declined to 48,850. The death toll rose to 5,28,139 with 18 new fatalities, including two deaths accounted for by Kerala. The National COVID-19 recovery rate rises to 98.70 per cent. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged on data to 4,39,13,294, while the case fatality has been recorded at a rate of 1.19 per cent. The Assam government has decided to create a new school education department by merging two existing ones, an official notification said.
