Kejriwal urges to have Covid vaccine booster

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to Delhiites to get COVID-19 alert. Only 10 percent of the people in the city have worked so far. He appealed to parents of children aged 12-17 to give the second dose of the vaccine. The Chief Minister said the government will also set up camps in schools to vaccinate children. School authorities may approach local district administration officials for this purpose. Kejriwal also asserted that Delhi has the capacity to administer one lakh doses per day.

Odisha faces new Covid-19 cases

Odisha recorded 816 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, while one more patient died of the disease. Active cases rose to 5,911, of which 2,011 patients were in Khurda district. The test positivity rate was 4.59 percent as cases were detected among 17,787 samples. According to the data, 118 of the new patients were children. Another 53 covid patients died due to the infection. Khurda district, where the capital Bhubaneswar is located, had the highest number of cases at 218, followed by 141 in Sundargarh and 78 in Cuttack, a report added.

145 J-K Haj pilgrims returns

The first batch of 145 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir has returned from Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The batch was received at the Srinagar International Airport by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, PK Pol and other senior officials of the police and civil administration.This year 6,000 pilgrims from J-K went on the annual pilgrimage. Hajj has resumed this year after a gap of two years due to Covid-19.

PM Modi inaugurates Bundelkhand Expressway in UP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway, which passes through seven districts of Uttar Pradesh and was built at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore. CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath welcomed Modi at the inauguration ceremony at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district on Sunday. On February 29, 2020, Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the expressway and it was completed in about 28 months. It stretches from NH-35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district to Kudrail village in Etawah district, where it joins the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.

Former Punjab Assembly speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon dies

Former Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior SAD leader Nirmal Singh Kahlan, 79, died after a prolonged illness on Saturday. Senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said in a tweet that Kahlon will be cremated on July 17 at Dadujodh village near Fatehgarh Churian in Gurdaspur district. Kahlon was the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats in the Akali government from 1997 to 2002. He also worked as a Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2012.

Kerala High Court grants actor Sreejith Ravi bail

The Kerala High Court has granted conditional bail to popular Malayalam actor Sreejith Ravi, arrested in a POCSO case in Thrissur last week. The court granted bail to Ravi after considering the defense's argument that he had been under treatment for behavioral disorders for the past six years. The actor was arrested based on a complaint filed by the child's parents that an unidentified man in a black car molested two minors at a nearby park on July 4. The court also said that the bail will be canceled if evidence of involvement in similar illegal activities is found.

India's tally of 16,906 Covid-19 infections has reached 4,36,69,850. The death toll rose to 5,25,519 with 45 new fatalities. An increase of 1,414 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload. In detail of Covid-19 cases in the country, it crossed 20-lakh on August 7, 2020, 30-lakh on August 23, 40-lakh on September 5 and 50-lakh on September 16. It surpassed 60 lakhs on 28 September, 70. 11 lakh on 11 October, 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and 1 crore on 19 December.

According to the Ministry of Education's National Institutional Ranking Framework, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has bagged the top spot among educational institutions in the country for the fourth consecutive year. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the 2022 ranking on Friday. In the overall category, IIT Madras is second followed by IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay third. Among the universities, IISc Bangalore was followed by JNU at the second position and Jamia Millia Islamia at the third position. IIT Madras is the best engineering college which is followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.
