Andaman and Nicobar faces new Covid cases

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported 10 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,330. According to the report, nine fresh patients have a history of travel due to which the infection was detected. There are now 59 active patients in the Union Territory and out of them 58 are under home quarantine and one has been admitted to the hospital. The death toll remained at 129 as no new deaths due to infection were reported, the official said. Also 13,492 children aged 12-14 received at least one vaccine dose, the official added.

Himachal Pradesh landslide leaves 8 injured in Kangra

On Tuesday in a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district eight people were injured. As per the report of Kangra District Emergency Operations Centre, at a construction site near a flour mill, a landslide occurred and the injured have been identified as Rajeev Kumar (19), Gaurav (20), Dev Narayan (40), Sahadev (21) and his brother Vasudev (30) and Jagat (42) — all from West Bengal — Neetu (24) from Uttar Pradesh and Vinay Kumar (44) from Kangra district, state disaster management director Sudesh Mokta said. Currently, injured all are admitted to a nearby hospital.

Odisha faces new Covid-19 cases

Odisha recorded 816 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, while one more patient died of the disease. Active cases rose to 5,911, of which 2,011 patients were in Khurda district. The test positivity rate was 4.59 percent as cases were detected among 17,787 samples. According to the data, 118 of the new patients were children. Another 53 covid patients died due to the infection. Khurda district, where the capital Bhubaneswar is located, had the highest number of cases at 218, followed by 141 in Sundargarh and 78 in Cuttack, a report added.

145 J-K Haj pilgrims returns

The first batch of 145 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir has returned from Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The batch was received at the Srinagar International Airport by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, PK Pol and other senior officials of the police and civil administration.This year 6,000 pilgrims from J-K went on the annual pilgrimage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway, which passes through seven districts of Uttar Pradesh and was built at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore. CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath welcomed Modi at the inauguration ceremony at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district on Sunday. On February 29, 2020, Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the expressway and it was completed in about 28 months. It stretches from NH-35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district to Kudrail village in Etawah district, where it joins the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.

Former Punjab Assembly speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon dies

Former Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior SAD leader Nirmal Singh Kahlan, 79, died after a prolonged illness on Saturday. Senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said in a tweet that Kahlon will be cremated on July 17 at Dadujodh village near Fatehgarh Churian in Gurdaspur district. Kahlon was the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats in the Akali government from 1997 to 2002. He also worked as a Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2012.
