Eminent poet and Jnanpith awardee Padma Shri Neelmani Phookan died of heart attack at GMCH. The Chief Minister of Assam could not attend the funeral as he was in New Delhi following the schedule. He paid tribute to the eminent poet in a post saying, "I am saddened to hear of the death of a shining star who blessed the society of Assam with his literary creations. A 40-year-old resident of Assam was declared an undocumented immigrant 5 years ago. The Gauhati High Court canceled that announcement on Tuesday. A division bench of Justices Achintya Malla Bujor Barua and Arun Deb Chaudhary cited the material and said that Md Jamir Ali was wrongly declared a foreigner, who entered Assam after March 24, 1971. On Wednesday, forest officials said that one-horned rhino was spotted in the area of Pava Reserve Forest in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
