Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said that the history and heritage of Rath Yatra should be preserved and passed on to the younger generation.
Participating in the ISKCON Agartala Rath Yatra, Saha described the festival as a celebration of unity that promotes brotherhood, harmony and social cohesion.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to preserving the state’s rich cultural and religious heritage while continuing the pace of development.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu was also present at the programme.
Meanwhile, Rath Yatra was celebrated with religious fervour across the state.
In South Tripura, the district’s largest Rath Yatra was held at the ISKCON Jagannath Temple in Baikhora, where Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb participated in the celebrations.
A special attraction this year was the Rath Yatra at Amzad Nagar along the India-Bangladesh border, where Hindu and Muslim residents jointly organised the festival for the first time since Independence, sending a strong message of communal harmony.
Thousands of devotees also gathered for the traditional Rath Yatra at Melaghar in Sepahijala district. Following religious rituals, devotees pulled the chariot amid devotional chants.
Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman and other dignitaries also attended the celebrations.
