UN Secretary issued a warning on Himalayan rivers

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres issued a warning that key Himalayan rivers like the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra, all of which are extremely vital to India, may experience decreased flows as glaciers and ice sheets retreat over the ensuing decades as a result of climate change.
“For all life on earth, glaciers are essential. The landmasses that make up our home were sculpted out over many years. They currently cover 10% of the planet. The world’s water towers are also glaciers “During a gathering on the International Year of Glaciers’ Protection on Wednesday, Guterres made a statement.
According to Guterres, melting glaciers are the “canary in the coalmine” because human activity is raising global temperatures to risky new heights.
