The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has constituted four High-Powered Committees in accordance with a resolution taken during consultative meetings held with various stakeholders last month on issues concerning indigenous tribal rights, Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) matters, Inner Line Permit (ILP) framework and related concerns.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that the State government has constituted the High-Powered Committee to examine and recommend measures to address concerns relating to illegal infiltration and illegal immigrants in the state.
According to an official order issued by the Home Department, the committee will be chaired by Environment and Forests Minister Wangki Lowang.
The Commissioner (Home) will serve as the Member Secretary, while representatives from the All Arunachal Tribal Forum (AITF), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee, legal experts and academics have been included as members.
The committee has been tasked with studying the prevalence of illegal infiltration and illegal immigration within Arunachal Pradesh and recommending measures to strengthen border control mechanisms.
On the other hand, the State government has constituted a High-Powered Committee to examine issues relating to non-APST lineage claims and the protection of indigenous rights. Headed by Minister Kento Jini, the Committee has been entrusted with studying the issue in detail and recommending appropriate measures to safeguard indigenous rights and address all related and consequential matters.
Another High-Powered Committee on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) Framework, headed by Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, has been tasked with examining and recommending measures for further strengthening and enhancing the implementation of the Inner Line Permit framework, along with all consequential and related matters.
Besides, the fourth High-Powered Committee, headed by Minister Pasang D. Sona, has been tasked with examining and recommending measures for the re-verification of Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) certificates and all consequential matters arising therefrom.
“The Committee brings together representatives from AITF, AAPSU, the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee, legal experts, scholars and government officials, ensuring a broad-based and participatory approach to this important issue,” Khandu said.
