Active COVID-19 cases taking its surge

With 2,380 new coronavirus infections reported in a day, India's total number of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,30,49,974, while active cases rose to 13,433, according to Union Health Ministry data on Thursday. Data updated at 8 am said the death toll rose to 5,22,062 with 56 new fatalities. An increase of 1,093 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Two farmers were electrocuted and a child sustained burns when they came in contact with high-tension wires in a village here, police said on Thursday. The incident took place in Tadiawar's Kakraha Majra East Deoria village and he was taken to a medical college, where his condition is now stable. A 42-year-old BJP member was shot dead in east Delhi's Gazipur area on Wednesday, police said. He was secretary of Mayur Bihar district. According to the report, Gazipur police station's beat personnel while patrolling noticed a gathering in Mayur Vihar area. On reaching there, a person was found lying on the road in front of the house with a bullet wound. People rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Priyanka Kashyap said a case has been registered under appropriate sections and the police is looking for the killers.
