The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that there would be a slight decrease in heat intensity from today in the northern and central part of India. IMD's senior scientist Naresh Kumar said further that this will be due to a western disturbance (WD) affecting the Himalayan region."Heat intensity is likely to decrease from today as a western disturbance is likely to bring light rainfall over the western Himalayan region," he said.Mr Kumar also predicted that winds moving from the Bay of Bengal would cause rainfall in north-west and central India.

The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari today announced a series of austerity measures to reduce the expenses of Raj Bhavan so as to make more resources available for COVID-19 relief measures.The Governor today gave instructions to Raj Bhavan to undertake the austerity measures in the current financial year to reduce its expenses."No new capital works to be undertaken. There will not be any new major construction/repairing works in Raj Bhavan. Only ongoing works in progress will be continued and completed," the Governor said in a press statement.

Monsoon rains are likely to enter India through the southern coast around June 1, the weather office said on Thursday, marking the start of the four-month rainy season.Weather conditions are "very likely to become favourable from June 1, 2020" for the monsoon onset over Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement.The IMD had earlier forecast the arrival of monsoon rains over Kerala on June 5, four days later than usual.

The Delhi government today warned of a possible locust attack and asked authorities to spray insecticides and pesticides on crops, vegetation, gardens and orchards.India is battling the worst desert locust outbreak in recent times. Swarms of locusts first attacked Rajasthan and have now spread to Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh."As the swarm of locusts flies in daytime, and rests during the night, it should not be allowed to rest at night," said an advisory by Delhi Agriculture Department officer AP Saini.
