In a major push towards inclusive development in the Northeast, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mizoram to implement targeted CSR initiatives aimed at road safety, traffic infrastructure, and disaster response. A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain battered Tripura in the early hours of April 21, damaging at least 445 houses and injuring two people. The worst-hit areas were Mohanpur in West District and Karbook in Gomati District, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. In Mohanpur alone, 261 houses were damaged — 65 severely and 196 partially. Karbook reported 158 damaged houses, including 26 fully destroyed, 83 severely damaged, and 49 partially affected. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday assured that the Centre will take necessary steps for the upkeep and maintenance of the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-8), MP Biplab Kumar Deb said. NH-8 is considered the lifeline of Tripura, connecting the state with the rest of the country. "Today, I met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and discussed four issues related to road connectivity in Tripura.
