India records more new COVID-19 cases

After 103 days the country recorded a one-day increase of over 8,000 new COVID-19 cases. According to Union Health Ministry data, the number of infections in India stands at 4,32,13,435, while the number of active cases has reached 40,370. A total of 8,329 new coronavirus cases were reported in the span of 24 hours, while the death toll from the disease reached 5,24,757, with 10 deaths recorded, data updated at 8 am showed. Daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.41 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.75 percent.

Fire at hospital in Delhi

A patient is feared dead due to the fire that broke out in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Delhi's Rohini area on the morning of Saturday. From reports, the patients were rescued safely except for one patient who was on ventilator support and is suspected to have died, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Director Atul Garg said. Besides, the fire has been completely extinguished.

Desilting of drains to be complete soon

The drain desilting work is in "war-phase" ahead of the onset of monsoon and is expected to be completed by June 15. So far, workers have removed 87,000 metric tonnes of silt from 688 drains, the Delhi Municipal Corporation said in a statement. “The MCD is working on war footing to meet the target of cleaning all drains under its jurisdiction before the onset of monsoon. Congress wins 3 Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan

The ruling Congress on Friday won three of Rajasthan's four Rajya Sabha seats, overcoming challenges from BJP-backed independent candidate Subhash Chandra. BJP got one seat. Congress candidates Randeep Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik and Pramod Tiwari and BJP's Ghanshyam Tiwari were declared elected by the Election Commission late on Friday night. This will take the number of Congress Rajya Sabha MPs from Rajasthan to six out of a total of 10. BJP will have four members. Out of 200 votes, 199 were valid and one was void.

Crime detection rate highest in Goa

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday claimed that the crime detection rate in the state is high and no criminal is spared.
