The Union Law and Justice Ministry on Thursday introduced the new Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who will take over as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) from May 15. Kumar will take over from CEC Sushil Chandra, who is retiring. India Reports 2,897 Fresh COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

Active COVID-19 cases dips in the country

With 2,827 new coronavirus infections reported in a day, India's number of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,31,13,413, while active cases fell to 19,067, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The death toll rose to 5,24,181 with 24 fatalities from the latest updated data. Daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.60 percent and weekly positivity rate at 0.72 percent, according to the ministry. The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4,25,70,165. The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive have crossed 190.83 crore.
