COVID-19: West Bengal government appoints new nodal officers for worst-hit districts.

The West Bengal government on Monday (July 13) appointed four senior IAS officers as Nodal officers in four districts which have reported maximum cases of coronavirus COVID-19. The four districts that have reported the highest number of cases are — Kolkata, Howrah, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts of the state. Iran drops India from Chabahar rail project, cites delay in funding.

Four years after India and Iran signed an agreement to construct a rail line from Chabahar port to Zahedan, along the border with Afghanistan, the Iranian government has decided to proceed with the construction on its own, citing delays from the Indian side in funding and starting the project. The entire project would be completed by March 2022, and the Iranian Railways will proceed without assistance from India and will use approximately $400 million from the Iranian National Development Fund, sources reported. Kerala reports new 608 Covid-19 cases

Kerala on Tuesday reported its highest single-day spike of 608 virus cases taking the infection tally to 8930 as the death count climbed to 35 with two more fatalities. Total lockdown in Bihar

Bihar reported 1,432 new COVID-19 cases taking the total to 18,853 on Tuesday. According to the State Health Department, the total number of cases has reached 18,853 in the state, with 12,364 patients recovered from the viral infection. Complete lockdown will be enforced in Bihar from 16 July to 31 July to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state. The state government on Tuesday issued guidelines regarding the 16-day lockdown.
