CEO Says Extensive Preparations in Full Swing for SIR Across Mizoram

Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Garima Gupta informed that extensive preparations are underway across all districts in Mizoram for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026.  She said that enumeration forms have already been downloaded in all districts, making Mizoram the first among the 16 states undertaking SIR Phase-III to complete the downloading process. Printing of the forms has also begun and is expected to be completed on May 22. The CEO said that all existing voters, including those whose names already appear in the current electoral roll, will have to submit fresh enumeration forms. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits from May 30 to June 28, 2026, during which they will distribute enumeration forms to voters in their respective areas.

After filling up the forms, voters may submit them to the BLOs or upload them online. BLOs will upload the received Enumeration Forms through the BLO App, while hard copies will be safely preserved by the CEO’s office for official records. Highlighting various important aspects related to the exercise, the CEO stated that the main objective of SIR 2026 is to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. She said that maintaining a clean and accurate electoral roll is the most important part of the exercise and emphasized that it forms the foundation of democracy.

The CEO further stated that voters should verify whether their names appeared in the last Intensive Revision Electoral Roll conducted in Mizoram in 2005. Those who have recently become eligible voters should check whether the names of their parents or ancestors appeared in the 2005 Roll. Persons whose names, or whose parents’ or ancestors’ names, do not appear in the 2005 Roll will be required to apply for inclusion in the Electoral Roll through Form-6. She said the exercise aims to ensure that long-time voters, genuine residents of Mizoram and eligible Indian citizens are properly included in the Electoral Roll. Special attention is also being given to new voters. Persons attaining the age of 18 years as on July 1, 2026, will be eligible for inclusion as new voters.

The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on July 5, 2026. A two-month period will then be provided for submission of claims and objections. During this period, eligible persons whose names are not included in the draft roll may apply for inclusion, while objections may also be raised regarding names of persons not eligible to vote. The draft roll will be made available for public viewing, including online through the CEO’s official website.Claims and objections will be examined by the District Election Officers (DEOs), and persons not satisfied with the decisions may approach the CEO for further appeal.
